The former rural community in Aiken County is the subject of a new documentary that will be shown during the Arkhaios Cultural Heritage and Archaeology Film Festival later this week.

The premier of “Reconstructing Hawthorne” is scheduled for Thursday at the Coligny Theatre on Hilton Head Island.

“It’s a simple story that reminds you of an earlier time,” said George Wingard, administrative manager for the Savannah River Archaeological Research Program.

Wingard teamed up with Charleston-based multimedia content producer and director Patrick Hayes to make the 26-minute movie about Hawthorne, which was in an area that became a part of the Savannah River Site, or SRS.
