Premiere planned for “Maynard,” about Atlanta’s first black mayor

“Maynard,” the documentary about Atlanta’s first black mayor, will be screened Saturday night as part of the Atlanta Film Festival.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution was the only Atlanta media outlet to cover the film’s New York premiere in November.

“Right now is the right time to talk about Maynard Jackson because in my opinion we are suffering through a crisis of integrity in our society, and he was a man of integrity,” his daughter Brooke Jackson Edmond said then. “He really wanted nothing more than to serve the people of Atlanta, to leave the city a stronger, better city, to create equal economic opportunity for men and women of all colors, ages and nationalities, and everything he did was toward that end.”
