The call of “lights … camera … action” is heard as regularly in Savannah these days as “beer here” is at a big league ballpark.
The film and television industry is a pillar of our local economy. Production activity has injected more than $230 million since the start of 2016, with several more projects, including a high-profile Disney film, still to shoot here before year’s end.
But unlike Savannah’s other economic stalwarts — the ports, manufacturing, tourism, healthcare, the military — the entertainment sector is not yet strong enough to stand on its own. The local infrastructure remains in the development stage, both in terms of crew expertise and production facilities.
