Savannah Film Fest: 10 Top Doc Directors Set For Hollywood Reporter Panel October 28th


Exciting news for doc lovers: The SCAD Savannah Film Festival and The Hollywood Reporter have selected 10 top documentary features from 2018 that will be represented by their directors at this year’s edition of the fest’s celebrated “Docs to Watch Panel” — which will be presented by THR and moderated by yours truly for the fifth consecutive year — at SCAD’s Lucas Theatre on the afternoon of Sunday, Oct. 28.

Headed to the deep south for the panel will be Steve Maing on behalf of Crime + Punishment (Hulu); Jimmy Chin and Chai Vasarhelyi on behalf of Free Solo (National Geographic); Gabe Polsky on behalf of In Search of Greatness (AOS); Nathaniel Kahn, a best documentary feature Oscar nominee for 2003’s My Architect and best documentary short Oscar nominee for 2006’s Two Hands: The Leon Fleisher Story, on behalf of The Price of Everything (HBO); Al Hicks and Rashida Jones on behalf of Quincy (Netflix); Julie Cohen and Betsy West on behalf of RBG (Magnolia); Cristina Costantini and Darren Foster on behalf of Science Fair (National Geographic); Matt Tyrnauer on behalf of Studio 54 (Zeitgeist); Tim Wardle on behalf of Three Identical Strangers (Neon); and Morgan Neville, a best documentary feature Oscar winner for 2013’s 20 Feet from Stardom, on behalf of Won’t You Be My Neighbor? (Focus Features).

The full 90-minute conversation will be recorded and air exclusively on THR‘s website shortly after it takes place. (The website currently offers video of the panels from 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017.)
