Coastal Jazz Association to Celebrate Duke Ellington’s Birthday with Annual Tribute Concert and Savannah Jazz Festival Lineup Announcement

Coastal Jazz Association’s annual Duke Ellington Tribute Concert, the largest Sunday Concert of the year, will take place on April 28, 2019, at 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the ballroom of the Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa. This annual concert celebrates Duke Ellington’s birthday and pays tribute to the many times he performed in Savannah.

Announcements for the 38th annual Savannah Jazz Festival will also take place at this special concert. Savannah Jazz Festival will take place September 22 – 28, 2019 at venues throughout Savannah, culminating in three days and nights in Forsyth Park.

This festive performance will feature the 17-piece Savannah Jazz Orchestra with special guests, premier vocalist Priscilla Albergottie-Williams and Jalen Baker on vibraphones.

Priscilla Albergottie-Williams has secured numerous showcase performances in Berlin, Frankfurt, and Stuttgart, Germany as well as a plethora of performances in the United States. She released her debut demo, “One Star in the Night” and has performed live before “Fergi”, the Dutchess of Whales.

Jalen Baker’s musical ability has been acknowledged on numerous occasions. While at Columbia College Chicago, he was named outstanding soloist at both the Notre Dame and Elmhurst Jazz Festivals and was selected as one of two students to represent the school at the Arcevia Jazz Festival in Italy.

The Savannah Jazz Orchestra remains one of Coastal Jazz’s most important initiatives. Co-directed by Teddy Adams and Randall Reese, the Savannah Jazz Orchestra most recently accompanied Chuck Leavell, keyboardist for the Rolling Stones, at the 2018 Savannah Jazz Festival to a record-breaking crowd in Forsyth Park.

“The Duke Ellington Tribute Concert is a beloved, long-standing tradition for Coastal Jazz Association. It’s our most popular monthly concert with a sold-out crowd year after year” says Howard Paul, board president for Coastal Jazz Association and President of Benedetto Guitars.

Coastal Jazz members enjoy free admission to the Duke Ellington Tribute Concert. Non-members can purchase tickets for $20 at
