Atlanta-based nonprofit, re:imagine/ATL, is launching the area’s premier international film festival specifically focused on youth-created content: the re:imagine/DREAMFest. Young people ages 14-24 are encouraged to submit films to be adjudicated and screened for a public audience on December 6th and 7th, 2019 at the Westside Cultural Arts Center. This teen-led initiative will include a screenwriters competition, film screenings, and interactive workshops, as well as activations leading up to the event throughout the fall to engage youth from across metro-Atlanta and around the globe.
Founded on the idea that storytelling can lead to transformation, the re:imagine/DREAMFest encourages young people to realize the potential of their dreams, and aims to provide them with a platform to use their voice to create change- in themselves, in others, and in the world. By activating young storytellers and supporting them through the creative process, the festival is working at the intersection of culture and media to cultivate the next generation of global leaders and changemakers.
Categories include animation, narrative, documentary, smart phone, music video, screenplay, and silent film. Winners of each category will receive cash prizes and unique opportunities with local filmmakers. Awards range from jury awards, to a variety of special awards including Best of ATL and Global Changemaker. Judges will be a mix of local youth and industry professionals.
Submissions are now open and can be made through the Film Freeway site at https://filmfreeway.com/reimagineDREAMFest. Videos completed in the past two years are valid for entry. The early bird deadline is August 1. All submissions must be made by October 1. Filmmakers will be notified by November 1 whether their entry is selected for screening at the festival. Sponsorship opportunities are still available for this inaugural international event. All inquiries should be directed to email@example.com.
