SCAD Savannah Film Festival celebrates female filmmakers

SCAD Savannah Film Festival has been in part, a celebration of female filmmakers. Now in its 3rd year, the Wonder Women Panel Series focuses on the cinematic achievements and contributions of women in film and television and features directors, producers, and writers. This year the festival is screening over 50 films directed by female filmmakers.

Wonder Women: Producers included: Amy Emmerich, president North America, Refinery29; Carla Hacken, producer and president, Paper Pictures; Alison OwenHow to Build a Girl, Elizabeth, Harlots; Sue Naegle, chief creative officer, Annapurna Pictures.

Wonder Women: Directors included: Annabelle AttanasioMickey and the Bear; Laure de Clermont-TonnerreThe Mustang; Jocelyn DeBoer, Greener Grass; Dawn LuebbeGreener Grass; Gail MancusoModern Family, A Dog’s Journey; Olivia WildeBooksmart; Kaila YorkNever See Her Again, Home Is Where the Killer Is.

Wonder Women: Writers included: Moira BuffiniByzantium, Harlots, Jane Eyre; Sarah GubbinsI Love Dick, Better Things, Shirley; Katie SilbermanIsn’t It Romantic, Booksmart, Tom and Jerry.

Olivia Wilde was honored with the  Rising Star Director Award and dazzled everyone on the red carpet in a Carolina Herrera dress. She also participated in a Q+A following the screening of her film Booksmart, moderated by The Hollywood Reporter’s Scott Feinberg. Actress Valerie Pachner received the Discovery Award and participated in a Q+A for A Hidden Life, moderated by Variety’s Marc Malkin.

During the day, Alan Cumming participated in a special In Conversation about his career, moderated by Time Magazine’s Sam Lansky. Positron presented their Voyager® VR activation with Dinner Party at Southern Motors Automotive.
